The Dinky 520, a miniature model of the Fiat 600 D, was launched by Dinky Toys France in 1964. This model pays tribute to one of the most iconic city cars of the twentieth century.

The real Fiat 600 D
The Fiat 600 was introduced in 1955 as the successor to the famous Fiat Topolino. Compact, economical, and affordable, it embodied exactly what post-war Europe needed. The later 600 D featured a larger 767 cc. engine and more comfort, making the car even more popular.

A global success under license
The success of the Fiat 600 wasn’t limited to Italy. Under license, several versions were produced around the world.
- Fiat Neckar Jagst (Germany)
Locally built versions for the German market; about 171,000 units built.

- Fiat Concord (IKA) (Argentina)
Produced for the South American market; about 304,000 units built.

In total, more than 4.9 million Fiat 600s and licensed derivatives were produced worldwide, making it a key player in the mass motorization of Southern and Eastern Europe.
Dinky Toys 520
Dinky Toys recognized the popularity of the Fiat 600 D and released this scale model in the 1960s. Some of its key features are:
- Die-cast metal body with painted finish.
- Scale approximately 1:43.
- Simple but recognizable details: grill, headlights and wheels.
- Several color variants, some of which are rare and highly sought after by collectors.
Like its real-life counterpart, the Dinky 520 appeared in toy shops across Europe and was sometimes produced under license or with small local variations.
I rescued this little car from the scrap yard and restored it to an acceptable level. The box is a fine copy I made of the original French box.
